Relief Horn of Africa Famine

Iris Relief is compelled by compassion to actively engage with the immediate emotional and physical needs of children and adolescents suffering the effects of famine and displacement. We are a cooperative of international members with many and varied skills. At present we are deploying teams to respond to the devastating famine in the Horn of Africa and Kenya.

We celebrate cultural diversity and treat people with dignity and respect. Regardless of differences in race, religion, ethnicity, or gender. We work with young people to aid the healing of families and communities. Iris Relief aims to partner with larger government and non government organizations to enable a holistic network of care and provide meaningful relief to displaced peoples. We come willing to adapt to the specific needs of individuals and circumstances. We come in peace to bring healing and to redeem hope.

In August 2011
Iris Relief sent a scouting trip to northern Kenya. We surveyed the needs of the regions to determine what kind of aid and relief we could offer. We were privileged to bring love, food and joy to a suffering Kenyan Somalian community affected by the drought.

Somalia - Due to the unstable infrastructure in Somalia, Iris Relief sent in a small recon team to survey the famine crisis there. Shocking reports confirmed the severe humanitarian suffering and hunger. We are assessing how to help those suffering in the midst of a war torn dangerous land.

September and on 2011
We will be sending more teams over the next few months into Kenya, to the northern region of Turkana, where the Kenyans are badly suffering from the drought, and another team to the eastern district where the Somalian Kenyan communities live. We will continue to work with the nationals on the ground to provide food for the people and cattle. We are helping to keep the remaining livestock alive, which is a main source of income and survival for the communities.
